Description
Originally built in 1905, Sam Cornwall, the builder and owner of the house, was chief clerk at the Post Office and owned the house until 1939.
This house, along with the other eight Edwardian houses in this row, was saved from demolition in 1983-1985 with the completion of rear yard infill, and is now part of the Pacific Heights Housing Co-operative developed by architect Roger Hughes.
The houses were moved forward and regrouped as four pairs, and converted into duplexes. This house is listed as its original address, 1019 on the Vancouver Heritage Register, but the current addresses are 1019 and 1021 (duplex).
Roger Hughes won a Governor General’s Medal for Architecture in 1986 for the project.
The houses have been painted with authentic colours under the Vancouver Heritage Foundation’s True Colours Program, and represent a traditional streetscape of heritage homes.
