Description
The first appearance of 1104 West 15th Avenue in Henderson’s Directory is in 1913 with no occupant, only listed as “New house”. In 1914 W.C. (William Curtis) Shelly of Shelly Brothers is listed as the resident. This two storey is a good example of a Craftsman style house with dentil coursing in the two front facing gable dormers and gothic pattern on the leaded glass windows. The porch, entry and garage have the original stone foundation detail.
Mr. Shelly was a notable Vancouverite serving as Minister of Finance, Vancouver City alderman and Park Board chairman. He was also an entrepreneur and philanthropist, credited for founding many businesses.
