Description

The Carmichael House at 1145 Union Street was built in 1900-1901 in sections by David B. Carmichael and is currently listed in the “B” category on the Vancouver Heritage Register. The Carmichael House provides an important point of reference as one of the earliest housing stocks in the city. This 1 1/2 storey woodframe house makes up a cluster of six relatively intact houses located mid-block on the north side of Union Street, surrounded by light industrial land uses. The Carmichael House is within walking distance of Seymour School.
The original address for Carmichael House would have been listed as 1145 Barnard Street. Barnard Street was renamed Union Street in 1911, to avoid confusion between Barnard and Burrard Streets. The house has been repainted to its original colours (with help from VHF’s True Colours grant).
