Description
1204 East 14th Avenue first appears in city directories in 1912, with Thomas Yates, a builder, listed as the resident.
The house had numerous residents in its early years, including an engineer, a clerk, and a shipper. The first long-term resident was Stephen Griffiths, a picture framer. Born in Wales, Griffiths was a carpenter prior to taking up a career as a picture frame. He worked as an independent picture framer in Victoria and Vancouver beginning the late 1910s and through most of 1940s. His death registration indicates he retired as a picture framer in 1947. Stephen lived at the house from 1922 until his death in 1948. His widow, Christine, remained at the house until 1953.
