Description
1220 Homer was originally used as a biscuit and chocolate warehouse and office for the Walter M. Lowney Co., a US candy company and the manufacturer of “Cherry Blossom”. The building was designed by Townley & Matheson and built in 1946.
By 2000, the area had changed from industrial to a mixed-residential and commercial neighbourhood with less need for warehouse space. Architect Peter Busby renovated the building for his architectural office, and rehabilitated the space to include atriums at the front and centre of the building. This effort has preserved the historic fabric of the neighbourhood, and created a beautiful rehabilitation of this heritage building.
