Description

Originally Point Grey Fire Department (PGFD) No. 4. It opened on October 22, 1922 but only after the final payment of $2250 had been paid to the contractors. In 1929, PGFD along with SVFD, amalgamated with Vancouver and it became VFD No 22. It closed June 18,1982 and became Marpole Place, senior citizens drop-in center.

Operated by the Marpole Oakridge Area Council Society since the mid-1980s, Marpole Place was forced to move to St. Augustine’s Church on Hudson Street after a flood in December of 2013.

In 2018, the Association of Neighbourhood Houses in Vancouver made the Marpole Firehall/Marpole Place its newest Neighbourhood House. Marpole Place will operate like a “classic neighbourhood house,” serving seniors, offering drop-in programs or formal adult daycare programs as well as working with youth and young families.

This site was featured on the 2024 Heritage Discovery Day and House Tour.
