Description
1585 W 15th Ave was built in 1929, with 16 units. It was designed by Archibald Campbell Hope, who also designed the Madrona and Roxborough on either side at the same time, as well as Heritage Hall fifteen years earlier. It is a typical three-storey walk-up that was being built at this time in the South Granville area.
The Oxford blends aspects of Spanish Colonial Revival and Mission Revival styles. Its tile covered overhanging eaves and ornamented arched doorway and stained glass focal windows are Spanish Colonial Revival style, as is the wrought iron detailing.
The Oxford borrows from Mission Revival style for its curvilinear parapets, roof style and bracketed eaves.
