Description
Likely built between 1905 and 1908, 1721 Grant Street first appears in city directories in 1908. The house was vacant from 1908-1909, with the first listed resident, Percy R. Bengough taking residence in 1910. At this time, he is listed as working as a machinest. Percy went on to become the president of Trades and Labour Congress of Canada.
The house is an example of a simple Vernacular house. Similar to Victorian houses in height, its simplicity is reminiscent of the Pioneer style.
The house had several shorter term residents including a patternmaker for Terminal City Iron Works, a warehouseman for Campbell Storage and Company, a stenographer, several employees of AmCan, a clerk for the CPR, and an interpreter at the Japanese Kindergarten.
