Description

Built in 1909 by John Gruning, 1972 William Street first appears in city directories in 1911 with William A. Letcher listed as the resident. Letcher, a clerk for Evans Coleman & Evans Ltd, lived at the house for less than a year. The house had numerous short-term residents in its early years, including a warehouseman, a tailor, a moulder, an electrician, and a fisherman.

The house is in the Victorian style. Victorian houses are asymmetrical, narrow, 2-storey buildings, typically set low to the ground. They often have a prominent bay on one side. This style is rare in Vancouver outside of Strathcona, as many earlier examples have mostly been demolished.
