Description
This house was part of a real estate development operating in the early 1910s in an area bounded by Cypress to Arbutus and between 13th and 16th Avenues on land purchased from the CPR (Canadian Pacific Railway).
The development was called “Talton Place” and created by Thomas Langlois, a newcomer from Quebec. Langlois was a successful entrepreneur in land development and created Prudential Builders (a company that specialized in “pre-fab” homes). Pre-fabricated homes were built in components on Dufferin Street (renamed West 2nd Ave) and later moved and assembled on their new sites.
2005 West 16th Avenue was built around 1912 and in 1996 a Heritage Revitalization Agreement with the City of Vancouver enabled the rear of the lot to be subdivided and the construction of a compatible infill dwelling was added. Funds from the sale of the new lot helped to finance the rehabilitation of the heritage home.
