Description
Designed, owned, and built in 1910 by George Tyson (the original owner), 2016 Ferndale is one of several houses built by Tyson on Ferndale Street (then known as Keefer Street). This two-storey house is decorated with discrete half-timbering and a full porch which includes a bay window.
Alex S. Smith, the manager of Smith Brokerage Company, was the houses resident in 1911. From 1914-1915, John Gamble of the foreman city police patrol lived at the house. The houses longest-staying residents were the Yip Family, who moved into the house in 1960 and stayed for over thirty years.
Ferndale street was previously a part of Keefer Street until it was renamed in 1929. Keefer Street was named after George Alexander Keefer who worked as a surveyor for the Canadian Pacific Railway, before opening a private engineering business.
