Description

2086 West 5th Avenue first appears in city directories in 1913. The first listed resident was Elmer Matson, a labourer for J. Hanbury & Co.

Matson remained at the house until 1924, when the directory lists the occupant as Hjalmir Mathiesen, a labourman who moved to Canada from Norway. Mathiesen lived in the house with his wife, Asta from 1924 until Asta’s death in 1941. Hjalmir remained at the house until at least 1955. Hjalmir passed away in 1964 at the age of 85.
