Description

In 1912, the Swift and Company’s Construction Department designed and built this four-storey meat warehouse and packing plant. In 1925, two additional storeys were added as the company grew. In 1918 a two-storey extension with loading bays was added to the east to accommodate additional office space.

The impressive size of the building is a clear indication of the prosperity of wholesale trade during this period, and the importance of the extensive food distribution network that developed with the growing population. In 1969, the Packing House was taken over and renovated into a commercial office building.
