Description
Knole house was one of the grand estates that sprang up along the stretch of SW Marine Drive that sloped down to the Fraser River. Blythe D. Rogers from the sugar magnate family and his architect wife Alix commissioned the house in 1919. It was designed by Bernard Cuddon Palmer, a well-known architect.
Knole was a Tudor-style house with 17 rooms, built on 2.5 acres of land. It included an adjoining house for the caretaker. After Blythe D. Rogers’s sudden death in 1920, Alix Rogers carried the project to its completion. A few years later, she married Massy Goolden, a retired captain of the Royal Navy, and they lived at Knole together.
