Description
This house was built by Island Investment Co. Ltd who employed architect William R. Kay in 1911 to build 2 frame dwelling houses valued at $4500 (2232 and 2228 Stephens St). Kay designed about a dozen houses in the neighbourhood that are more simple in design than 2232-2234 Stephens.
This house features Arts and Crafts elements with double brackets, dentils, notched bargeboard, half-timbered gables and bay windows with stained-glass transoms. The front-porch square columns are panelled. Kay only worked in Vancouver for 3 years and left when the pre-war building boom was over.
The first two occupants are listed as Frank J Wilson in 1913 and Frank Barnes in 1914. It was vacant in 1912.
