Description

This building was built in 1909 for the Mount Pleasant Presbyterian Church congregation. The design is a mix of Romanesque Revival round arches and corner turret, combined with Late Gothic pointed arches. The original architects were John Edmeston Parr and Thomas A. Fee, who designed dozens of homes characterized by a round turret similar to the turret in this building. One well-known building is Glen Brae (Canuck Place). The 15 years following Parr and Fee’s partnership in 1898 saw them become one of the most successful and productive architectural firms in Canada.

Used as a church until 1991, it was was converted into 23 strata units in 1994. The conversion was designed by Gomberoff – Policzer architects. The exterior of the building, clad in brick and trimmed with stone was retained but the interior was gutted. The building is known today as “The Cornerstone”.
With the assistance of VHF Restore It grants, the building has undergone restoration in the form of roof replacement, window repairs and restorations.
