Description
Originally called the Harris Block, this 1912 large brick apartment building was designed by architect Arthur Bird.
Bird built many commercial and residential buildings. Within his first year in the city he had plans to build five apartment buildings, and numerous houses. His designs were restrained and followed typical Edwardian layout. He was the City’s architect and chief building inspector and advocated for public housing.
Built of Clayburn brick (from Clayburn in today’s Abbotsford, BC) the ground floor shops had an elevator and refrigeration system and a dance hall was once located in the basement.
