Description

The Ainsworth House at 2622 West 7th Avenue is listed in the “C” category on the Vancouver Heritage Register. This two storey house has both historical and architectural significance. Its Craftsman style features a full width porch with square posts and curved decorative brackets, transom stained glass windows and decorative shingles in the upper gable.

Built in 1911 by John Morley, this house is one of over twenty houses constructed by Morley in Kitsilano during the area’s rapid development between 1910 and 1914. The house first appears in city directories in 1912, with William R. Roote, a manufacturer and manager at Roote Auto Top Company, listed as the first resident. Roote lived at the house from 1912-1913. From 1914-1919, Margaret and Sarah Candlish of M &S Dressmakers lived at the house.

The house was owned by John Ainsworth, a warehouseman and labourer, for forty years between 1920 and 1961.

In 2006, it was repainted to a colour scheme authentic to its time with the assistance of a VHF True Colours Grant.
