Description

The Butterfield house was constructed in 1922 by Frederick Sharples, the original owner who was a painter by trade. Three families occupied the house longterm; Howard Wilson Butterfield and wife Nana Demille Butterfield, Alfred Lancey, and Vilkmar Richter.

The house is evidence of inter-war development of “suburban” areas of Vancouver such as Kerrisdale. When it was built, just under half of the lots on this block had been developed. It is a traditional bungalow style found in Vancouver in the area.

The house was added to the Vancouver Heritage Register in 2013 as a B-Listing with the assistance of a VHF Get on the Register Grant. It was also featured on the 2024 Heritage Discovery Day and House Tour.
