Description

The home at 2900/2906 W. 3rd is one of nine heritage homes on this block. Between 1910 and 1912, each lot was purchased and immediately sub-divided into six lots, quickly changing the area from a rural area to a very dense neighbourhood.

The house has many Vancouver Craftsman features including a full width front porch accessed by a long staircase and brackets that support the roof. Like many of the adjacent homes, this is a two and a half story structure (which was built for one family) made it suitable for multi-family use from the date it was constructed.

At the time, this was not an expensive neighbourhood and the original occupant of the property was Colin Henderson, a surveyor. The historical directories show that by the 1940s this house and many others in the neighbourhood were occupied by women as the heads of households. At that time many of these homes were used for boarders and today this house is still zoned for multiple suites.
