Description

Livestock sales and shows at Hastings Park date back to 1889, when the province donated the land adjacent to the Hastings township, which also home to the British Columbia Jockey Club. The Vancouver Exhibition (later Pacific National Exhibition fairgrounds) first opened in 1907. The Livestock Building was built in 1931.

During the Second World War the Livestock Building was used as a federally authorized wartime marshalling site for Japanese-Canadians deported from the city to the interior. Between March 1942 – March 1943, Over 3,000 Japanese Canadian women, children and tuberculosis patients were detained in the Livestock Building.
