Description
Along with its neighbour (now 2957 Ontario), 2953-2955 Ontario was built on a single property in 1908 by Thomas Angus. The property was then subdivided in 1912. These house were built on a street of speculative houses, an example of the early boom of development in the area.
The first resident of 2953 Ontario Street was Angus’ sister: Annie Abbott. By the 1940s, the house had been converted into a three-unit apartment building. During the 1980s it was converted back into a single family home, and the exterior and interior were restored to their original style prior to it being added to the Vancouver Heritage Register in 1990.
2935-2955 Ontario Street is a two-and-a-half storey structure. Its hipped roof and central dormer is typical of the Colonial Revival style, as is its full-width porch with classical columns. It features notable floral fretwork detailing, gothic arched windows, and stained glass sidelights.
