Description

This four-storey stone-clad Edwardian era commercial building was built in 1906 for Charles Edward Beckman. The fire-resistant iron-and-steel framed Edward Hotel stands on the site of the Regina Hotel, the only substantial wood-framed structure to survive the Great Fire of 1886.

In 1919 the building was given a new storefront, designed by the architectural firm Dalton and Eveleigh.

By 1920, importers R.S. Ford had taken over the building. Today, offices occupy the upper floors, and the Water Street Café has been at street level since 1988.
