Description

The News-Advertiser Building was constructed in 1907. It is associated with Francis Lovett Carter-Cotton (1847-1919), who arrived in Vancouver in 1886, bought two of the local newspapers and merged them as the News-Advertiser. Under Carter-Cotton’s direction, this became the first paper in North America with an electric-powered printing press. Carter-Cotton later became a Minister of Finance and first chancellor of the University of British Columbia.
