Description
These Craftsman style houses were built in 1920-1921 by Vancouver property developer Fred Melton. William and May Waring lived in 3044, the last developed and most expensive of the four, with their family from 1921-1952. The typical elements of Craftsman style are seen through all four houses, such as deep overhangs, cedar shingle cladding, clinker brick, tapered pillars and generous porches. The use of granite and the roof form and dormers distinguish 3044 from its neighbours. Inside, alterations have taken place over the years, including the relocation of the staircase, and removal of the wall between living and dining rooms. Many fine elements of the interior remain including shoulder-height wainscoting, leaded windows and built-in wainscoting. In 2016, 3044 was restored with VHF’s True Colours palette. In 2018 it was opened on VHF’s Annual Heritage House Tour.
