Description

This three-storey Classical Revival style hotel complex was built in 1907 for owners William and John H. Quann. The 1907 building replaced an earlier wood plank structure, also owned by the Quann Brothers. It was a gambling resort during the Klondike years.

The building was designed by Emil Guenther.

By 1913, a taxicab office, barbershop and billiard room also operated out of the building. The Rainier continued to house the same type of businesses until the 1970s, when the main floor was turned into a nightclub.

The building was refurbished and supervised by architect Barry McGinn. It is now a women’s only treatment project, and supportive housing for women in recovery.
