Description

Named after local contractor William McPherson, the original owner and builder, this five-storey plus lower level masonry commercial building was built in 1912.

Distinguished by its tan brick front façade with an inset red brick diamond pattern, it was designed by architects Joseph and Alfred Townsend, and stands in the city’s earliest, most historic area of commercial buildings and warehouses. The building was gutted by fire in 1935.

Now an apartment building, the exterior was restored in 2005 and features its distinctive diamond-patterned buff brickwork. Over the years there have been alterations made to the ground floor and parapet levels, but the middle floors remain intact to the 1912 design.
