Description

This house was originally designed and built by J.C. Turnbull in 1909, who occupied it briefly. The original address was 364 West 10th Avenue, and the building permits are found listed under this address. Turnbull lived in the house from 1910 until 1911.

Jacob Grauer, a postmaster at Eburne (whose son Dal served as president of the B.C. Electric Company) began living in the house in 1912. Grauer took out a building permit in 1914 for an office/store at the address. Jacob remained at the house until 1928. From 1930 until at least 1955, the resident was John W. McKay, a salesman.

This house is a very good example of the Queen Anne style and is a replica of a house at 1829 Parker Street in Grandview-Woodland. The house was converted and restored in 1998 as part of the 18 unit “Turnbull’s Watch” strata development.
