Description

The Kelly, Douglas and Co. Warehouse is a seven-storey warehouse building that was promoted as Vancouver’s first “skyscraper.”

Kelly, Douglas & Co. was co-founded in Vancouver in 1896 by Robert Kelly and Frank Douglas. The company prospered by outfitting the Klondike gold seekers, and also developed the Nabob Coffee and Tea brand.

This building was an excellent location close to the CPR rails. Kelly, Douglas built a five-storey warehouse in 1905 and added another floor in 1906. Kelly, Douglas continued to expand the building. William Tuff Whiteway designed the original building and the additions. J.M. McLuckie built all the additions.
