Description
This large Tudor Revival house was built in 1913 by noted architects, Samuel Maclure and Cecil Fox. The original owner was J.E Tucker. Tucker built another mansion on SW Marine Drive by the following year, and sold the Angus Drive house to John Hendry, the owner of B.C. Mills, Timber and Trading.
This was Hendry’s second Vancouver residence. His first mansion was built in 1902 at Burnaby St and Jervis St in the West End (this has since been demolished). Hendry only lived at the Angus Drive address for a year. After his death in 1916, his wife Adaline hung on to the mansion until the early 1930s, until Willis P. Dewees, the former general manager at the Strand Theatre, moved in.
