Description

Built in 1924 by the owner, David Gibson, 3857 W 20th Avenue is a good example of a traditional Vancouver Craftsman house, derivative of the Craftsman bungalow. This is visible in its low pitch front gable and decorative boards, front squared bay window, narrow front porch, side chimney with capped brick pattern, and simpler rear brick chimney.

This house is evidence of post-war development of “suburban” areas of Vancouver such as Dunbar. When it was built, there was no development any further west on 20th Avenue. From 1935-1988, the house was owned by Beatrice and Samuel Brail.

The house was listed on the Vancouver Heritage Register in 2013 under the C classification group.
