Street history: Originally known as George Street in both Vancouver and South Vancouver. In Vancouver, Plan 616 (1892) showed Charlotte Street from East 5th to East 15th Avenues. Possibly named after Charlotte queen consort of King George III. It was renamed George Street in the resurvey of D L 264A, 1905, Plan 1771. Also shown as George on a 1902 map. However, authorities soon realized that a George Street already existed in D L 182; George Street in D L 264A became known as St. George and was so listed in city directories from 1908 onwards.
