Description
This small, narrow gable-ended building was likely constructed in 1902 by local builder John Kemp. Victorian and Edwardian details include its bay window, front porch, wood channel siding with shingle pediment, simple window placement with original double hung windows, original casings and trims, and original interior stair balustrade and newel post. It appears to have been moved around 1908 to make way for Kemp’s new house (601 E Pender).
430 Princess Avenue’s architecture is reminiscent of Victorian styles, while the “classic box” style at 601 E Pender is a good example of Edwardian architecture common to the period. As such, the two homes serve as a visual for the transition from Victorian to Edwardian styles.
