Description

This gabled vernacular home was built in 1910 and was first listed as owned by Samuel Johnston in in 1912. The cross street for this home was formerly known as Horne Road and is now E 28th.

The Wheat Family resided at the home from 1929-1945. The family included Jas H Wheat and his wife Cathy Wheat, Jas H Jr. and his wife Alice Wheat, Peggy Wheat, Margaret Wheat, and Cyril Wheat. Jas H Wheat worked in the lab at BC Sugar Refinery, Peggy and Margaret Wheat also worked at BC Sugar Refinery as a helper and a packer. Jas H Jr. was a driver for Henry Darling & Sons. Cyril was a baker at Louries Pie Co. There were sometimes multiple members of the Wheat family residing at this address at different times.

Building Description: Gabled Vernacular – shingle cladding, gabled roof, arched porch entrance, full width dormer porch, offset front staircase and front door. 3 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms.
