Description
This house was built in 1910 and first listed in 1912. Its first listed owner was John Imrie, a cabinetmaker. The house changed hands multiple times between 1913 and 1940.
In 1914 it was owned by Robert Newmarch, a sign writer for Duker & Creighton. In the 1920s – John Field, a confectioner, and later on, W. Bradshaw. In the 1930s – W.T. Smith, an electrician, and his wife, Marguerite. In the 1940s – Hartvik Ulrickson, who worked at the meat counter for Woodwards, and his wife, Eva.
James Street was named after James Welton Home (1854-1922), a pioneer Vancouver realtor who served on Vancouver City Council from 1888-1890, was chairman of the Parks Board from 1888-1894, and was a MLA from 1890-1894.
