Description
Built in 1908 and originally located at 1062 Richards Street, this house is a typical example of housing built for the working class population.
In the 1940’s and 1950’s the house served as a speakeasy for a bootlegger. Lina Rupa, a Safeway Clerk, lived in this house from 1962, and loved her one-and-one-half storey wood frame house. She held out for many years before selling it to developers in 2009 to make room for condo development.
The house was saved from demolition and in 2010 it was relocated to this spot, and is a rare survivor of a single-family residence now surrounded by high rises.
