Description

Morton House was built as a single-family residence between 1890-1893 by Thomas Morton, a railway mail clerk for the Canadian Pacific Railway. The small house later tripled in size and extended to the full length of the lot as a multi-unit lodge to accommodate Chinese workers in 1921-1922.

Construction Date Source Discrepancy:
According to the City Directory the earliest record is found in 1894, suggesting the house is constructed in 1893-1894. The Heritage House Blue Plaque specifies the construction date as 1893. Canada’s Historic Places database records the construction date as 1890-1891.
