Description
Built in 1909, 538 Union Street is a good, intact Early Vernacular example in Strathcona. Originally, this single family classic frame house had an ornamented front façade which included decorative coursing around the porch and modest trim on its fascia. An alternation was made to the building in 1991. While the form of the house was retained, the porch was converted into an interior space and the decorative pattern of the coursing was duplicated to the clapboard façade. Like the diverse ethnicity in Strathcona neighbourhood, owners of 538 Union Street were of European, Chinese, and Japanese descent.
