Description
575-577 E 49th Avenue is a Heritage Class B, two and a half-storey gable-roof home located amongst a row of heritage homes on the north side of East 49th Avenue in the heart of South Vancouver. It is one of the many homes built during the housing boom of 1910. Built on what is probably one of the highest points of South Vancouver, this house is situated in the heart of what was the South Vancouver municipality.
575-577 E 49th Avenue is among a block of heritage houses lining East 49th Avenue. 575/577 E 49th avenue is one of the best example of Edwardian architectural design in South Vancouver. The house features a front gable roof, east side attic dormer, full width open front verandah, a second story porch, a small sleeping porch on the top floor, and many of its original windows. The house was owned by Thomas O’Neil for 11 years.
The houses original address (357 E 51st Ave) changed when South Vancouver amalgamated with the City of Vancouver in 1929, to 575 E 49th Avenue. The house is listed as 575/577 E 49th Avenue in in 1962 water service record.
The house was repainted its original colours in 2012 with the assistance of a VHF True Colours grant.
