Description
All that remains of this commercial structure is the façade of the BC Electric Showroom. Built in 1928 by Hodgson and Simmons, the BC Electric Showroom showcased the domestic electric appliances of the day.
The design of the building is an interesting combinations of clean-lined modern with classical details, like the faux-Mediterranean bronze window surrounds and second floor balconies. It appears to be Beax-Arts inspired.
Beaux-Art was a popular architectural style in the early 20th century that focused on symmetry. Many Beax-Arts buildings like this one have pedimented windows and a flat roof.
The façade was restored in 2006 by Stantec Architectural Firm.
