Description

This house was built in 1912 and first appears in listings the same year. The architect was J. J. Sparrow. The address was originally 663 then changed to 664 from 1913-1930 before returning to the original number.

This is one of the earliest houses built adjacent to the developing Fraser Street (formerly North Arm Road) corridor after the extension of the streetcar line.

The first owner listed is Jesse Addinall, a teamster for the Women’s Bakery. Subsequent owners included Robert Scott, a cabinetmaker, who resided in the home from 1914 – 1930, and Frederick Shaw, an electrician who resided in the home in 1930.

From 1933 – 1955, Sam Coen, a machinist for Can Summer Iron Works, resided in the home with his wife Alice and their children Martin and Neil. Neil was a machinist for the USS and Martin Samuel Cameron-Coen was enlisted in the Canadian army in WWII. He sadly passed on October 26, 1944 at the age of 20.
