Description

The Desrosiers Block is two-storey commercial building with Edwardian architectural elements constructed in 1901. The building was constructed by contractor P.J. Donahue and plumber Michael Desrosiers. By 1908 the tenants included two liquor stores and a barber, catering to a largely male clientele. In 1913 a restaurant was opened in the Desrosiers Block.

The heritage value of the Desrosiers Block lies in the historic relationship between this area and the economy of early Vancouver. At the turn of the twentieth century, this area of town was developed as a shopping area, as commercial activity spread outward from its early roots in Gastown.
