Description
This 1908 Gabled Vernacular house is located in the Strathcona neighbourhood, on the south side of East Pender Street between Hawks and Campbell Avenues. It was home to the Politano family between 1925 and 1956.
Lorenzo Politano (about 1859-1933) and his wife Angelina (about 1882-1944) moved in to 812 East Pender with their sons, Tony, Carl, Joe, Lewis and Frank. Tony and Carl each ran a cigar store at some point in their lives, respectively Service Cigar and Pacitto & Politano. Frank owned Politano’s Barber Shop on 204 Main Street in the 1950s. Their family bonds are apparent in that the siblings stayed together after Lorenzo died in 1933 and Angelina in 1944. They each went their own way in 1957, although Carl, Joe and his wife Margaret moved in together at 3963 Price Street in 1959.
