Description

This 1899 house was built by Vancouver alderman F.W. Sentell. The Sentells were a family of carpenters and builders who lived in the neighbourhood. The house was first shown to be occupied in 1901- with the address listed as 860 Dunlevy Avenue.
From 1907-1920, the house was occcupied by Harriett Anne Slade and her son. Harriett was coincidentally related to the Sentell family through marriage. George and Clara Winchcombe moved into the house in 1957, and their son George Alfred Winchcombe remained there until 2004.

The house is a good example of a pioneer Queen Anne Victorian style. It features bay windows on the front and side extending the full two storeys, gingerbread detailing and a decorative front porch.

The house was saved from demolition by Graham Elvidge and Kathleen Stormont, who were awarded both a City of Vancouver Heritage Award and Province of British Columbia Heritage Award in 2006.
