Description
This building was designed by Parr & Fee and built in 1909 as a “brick store and rooming house”. As early as 1930s the building became a center for restaurants, located between the Commodore Ballroom (1929) and the Orpheum Theatre (1927) in the heart of Granville’s theatre district.
Initially the Blue Goose Café, by 1936 it was the art-deco styled Hollywood Café, and by 1949 the Good Eats Café. In the 1930s this area of Granville Street was dubbed Theatre Row because of the large movie theatres with their distinctive neon signs; for 30 years, thousands flocked to the neighbourhood every week.
Today the area is known for some of North America’s greatest live music venues.
